Cargo monitoring system onboard a heavy Lifter

Comprehensive cargo and ballast tank monitoring to ensure vessel stability and safety

Cargo monitoring systems (CMS) on marine vessels provide alarm monitoring and data readings for liquid level, pressure and temperature in each cargo tank, plus each ballast tank. The reliability of data from these systems is critical for the operation, safety and structural integrity of the vessel, particularly throughout all loading and discharging processes. The main function is to maintain stability and load compensation during these operations. Any malfunction of the cargo monitoring system can delay and prevent cargo operations, which could result in increased port charges and docking schedules.

The KROHNE cargo monitoring system CARGOMASTER® is designed to supervise and control all such shipboard tank monitoring, alarm and liquid cargo operations. The system includes radar level transmitters for tank level and ullage measurement, and tank inert gas and vapour pressure sensors, as well as tank temperature profile sensors. Independent high level and overfill alarm sensors can also monitored. The software is adapted to each individual vessel application by a team of experienced engineers, who provide engineering, drawings, documentation, commissioning, and installation support. All equipment is built to withstand the demanding conditions of the marine environment, and installed in accordance with marine regulations, including intrinsic safety and the relevant marine classification type approval.

CARGOMASTER® can be installed on all kinds of vessels, from the smallest product tankers to the most complex chemical tankers and large VLCCs. Over 1000 ships have been equipped already with such cargo monitoring systems from KROHNE to date.
